Task 4 Old relating to New Zealand culture

I was struggled with this task 4 old or new relating to NZ because there was hard to find evidence which I any record. I thought evidence of recording  is very important.
Our classmates all went to Auckland Museum for this task. I chose my topic old NZ fashion.  I took many gorgeous and beautiful clothes. I expected that it could be enjoyable task for me because I am very kin at fashion, even I learn from internet how make clothing as well.
I had gathered all of my evidence of photos from museum, and I wanted to get recording from museum, so I sent email to ask whether I can record of interviewing him, but beginning of the start to write wasn’t right . At that time, I didn’t know there was useful phrses at escp.blogspot for asking them in proper way. If I knew that I would have used them.
Here is my email that I sent to him.

Dear  (I am afraid that he might doesn’t want that I put down his name on this page, so I leave blank )
Thank you for your email.
Let me introduce my-self first.
I am Caiden who study English at Unitec.

Last 24th of April I want Auckland Museum with guided tour for our task.
I am looking for old clothing relating to NZ cluture.(only European style) I had looked, there are some beautiful garments but most of them are from England.

Here are some questions,
1. Has Auckland Museum got any European style garments which made in New Zealand? if it's no, why?
2. When European settled in NZ how did they make their clothes? did they just import their clothes?
3. Do museum have old sewing machine? how old. There were must brought the sewing machine when European settled in NZ.
4. Also around  200 years ago, was it common to use sewing machine in NZ? if wasn't go to same question number 2.^^
5. I just want to know that NZ clothing history simply.^^

If it is alright to record our conversation, can I record our conversation? here is example, http://caidenlee.blogspot.co.nz/p/task-1_25.html. that is my blog for my task.  (it only take up to 3minute)
If you are not happy with recording, that's okey.^^  Could you please answer me by email? ^^
If I am allowed to record you, When is a convenient time for you?

Once again if anything you don't want it, that is fine. Never mine..^^
Thank you again that you read my email.  If there is incorrect word, sorry for that. I am learning English.^^
He replied me, some are very useful  information, also I was thankful for him, but when I read  the part of asking of recording , he answered me  “No, I do not wish to be recorded “ . To me the word  “no” font size like 30. ^^ Now I can smile, but that time I had lost all my interesting in doing task 4. (Please do not get me wrong . I do not blame you who replied me^^) In Korea if someone refuse against somebody’s request we do very carefully to say, for example, we should say  “I am sorry“ first, and than expland the reason why I don’t want be record.  I think, because of different cultural gap.  You know what I even told him that “If you are not happy with recording, that's okey.^^”  But even though I said so, I still expect “YES” ^^.
After I read that email I regretted sending him email. I asked myself, “was that email impolite or may he thought I gave him to research all my task?” but I did mean it. I gave him those questions for him whom might prepare for the answers if he accept my request. I felt, I was so stupid myself with my poor English.
Oh I nearly forget to tell that, what I have found out about my topic. I was going to research that very first of New Zealand of European style fashion, but as you know New Zealand
Here are some evidence of photos.
How beautiful aren’t they!  How could make the pattern and if there was no sewing machine how could sew by hands it was extraordinary works like art. They were very clever.

Information: Transit of Venus II is based on the sack back dress that was a fashionable garment style of the 1770s, when Captain James Cook collected, amongst other things, samples of different tapa cloth during his third voyage of discovery in the South Pacific. Jo Torrs contemporary version is made of tapa cloth, combining Polynesian fabric with European costume history. Torr combines materials and dress design to explore ideas around cultural exchanges between Polynesian and non-Polynesian peoples, through ceremonial gifts. Cook received gifts of Tahitian tapa cloth, gifted with same generosity with which he had been presented hei tiki in New Zealand.

Made: England, Late 1760s-1770s, Late 18th Century (George III (1760 - 1820)/House of Brunswick, Hanover Line/English reign, Georgian/Modern Age/European and British/art and design period)

Made: England, [India], Circa 1805 (George III (1760 - 1820)/House of Brunswick, Hanover Line/English reign)

Here are the answers that I asked him.
1. Has Auckland Museum got any European style garments which made in New Zealand? if it's no, why?
Auckland Museum has many ‘European style garments’ that were made in New Zealand. They are on display in Encounter : New Zealand Design & Decorative Arts

2. When European settled in NZ how did they make their clothes? did they just import their clothes?
Yes. When the first European settlers arrived they had to bring everything they needed, including materials to make their clothes. Otherwise they would have to import them from England or Australia
3. Do museum have old sewing machine? how old. There were must brought the sewing machine when European settled in NZ.
The Museum has a few sewing machines – one is on display in the ‘general store’ in the Auckland 1866 Gallery on the top floor. This particular machine came to New Zealand in 1885. I’m not sure when the first sewing machine came to New Zealand.
4. Also around  200 years ago, was it common to use sewing machine in NZ? if wasn't go to same question number 2.^^
I don’t know if there was a sewing machine in NZ 200 years ago. I doubt there was - You will have to research when they became widely available.

5. I just want to know that NZ clothing history simply.^^
There are many good books in the library
If it is alright to record our conversation, can I record our conversation? here is example, http://caidenlee.blogspot.co.nz/p/task-1_25.html. that is my blog for my task.  (it only take up to 3minute)

No, I do not wish to be recorded

Good luck with your project.
Once again thank you so much for your time and you replied my questions!^^

If I have this (Old or new relating to New Zealand) task again, I should choose something that really unique thing relating to NZ such as a maori fashion., it might be easier or if the topic is comparing old and new relating to New Zealand it could be not too hard to me. But I still enjoyed this topic even though I had lost my courage.
